Purpose of the Role
To be the business lead for the in house engineering business and Regional Engineering network across the UK. The primary objective will be to build a self-delivery in house engineering business that leads the UK market focusing on delivering exceptional engineering standards across all managed sites. Head of M&E Services is responsible for implanting engineering approaches tailored to specific building types and client requirements, whilst adhering to and reporting on technical governance metrics set by the central business. You will be proficient with tendering and have the commercial acumen to be able to respond to tender queries and submit responses in line with our business requirements.
Working across the business you will need to develop policies, procedures and a supply chain suitable for delivering to our clients needs across the UK. Having an awareness of day to day standards and providing expert engineering guidance for both planned and emergency situations, maintaining relationships with key suppliers, internal stakeholder and clients, as needed, is a crucial part of the role.
Reporting to the Head of UK Engineering you will play a vital part in the UK Engineering teams growth over the next 5 years, the task is to build a in house self-delivery engineering department that is market leading and has a focus on delivering against the basic fundamentals of good engineering service delivery.
Head of M&E services will develop an annual business plan for the delivery of high standards of
engineering across the sites and report regularly to relevant boards and stakeholders on standards and be expected to deliver on the agreed objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Governance
• Provide regular governance by reporting on the performance of the In house engineering service line and Regional Engineering Manager network
• Contribute to compliance policies established by the Safety+ board are fully adhered to by both supply chain and in house personnel.
• Report monthly on financial performance of individual contracts, additional works, projects and financial risk.
Risk Management & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards and regulations.
• Manage engineering-related risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
• Ensure PPM and statutory compliance levels are met at all times and are seen as the leaders across our business.
• Ensure SOPs/EOPs are relevant for the tasks and site specific risk assessments are available for each task.
Strategic Engineering Leadership
• Be an active member of the UK Engineering Executive committee & a UK Engineering board representative.
• Develop and implement engineering standards and best practices across UK site based operations.
• Develop a best in class supply chain across all regions that can deliver to the needs of our clients and are embedded in our approach.
Engineering Team Leadership
• Lead and develop the in house engineering teams across the UK in line with agreed and approved business plan.
• Ensure engineering teams maintain appropriate qualifications and certifications, develop pathways to career progression and development.
• Monitor commercial return from the in house M & E service provision
• Build a diverse team, creating a culture of commitment to get the job done and deliver against high service standards.
Client Relationships
• Develop client relationships across the portfolio in conjunction with the appointed CRM’s.
• Implement client relationship models for all engineering clients (including where the client may be an internal stakeholder)
Engineering Focused Stakeholder & Financial Management
• Manage key supplier relationships for engineering services and systems.
• Collaborate with the ESG and M&E Consultancy leadership teams on technical aspects of energy performance.
• Be financially responsible and accountable for the in house engineering P&L
• Ensure compliance with relevant engineering standards and regulations.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
• Detailed operational knowledge of managing a range of schemes.
• A solid engineering background with varied experience across a range of developments.
• Proven experience in leading a large and varied team, being able to get the absolute best performance out of individuals to contribute to a wider high performing team.
• Able to provide leadership in emergencies or demanding situations.
• Able to identify risks to our business and mitigate against such risks, particularly when they are not obvious.
• Able to identify commercial opportunities.
• Able to demonstrate a strong industry relationship with key clients and service partners.
• A good understanding of future challenges to the industry, such as the emergence of data, ESG related drivers/legislation changes and the emergence of Protect.
• Able to prioritise under pressure.
• A natural leader, who can inspire and motivate others.
In summary the ideal candidate should have a strong background in operational and engineering
management, excellent leadership skills, commercial acumen and an ability to think strategically. You should have experience in managing diverse teams, be adaptable, and have a proven track record of delivering results in high-pressure situations.
Working Hours - 37.5 hours
This role is based at Finsbury Circus House with time spent equally across the UK regions
