Health & Safety Fire Officer - Victoria Centre, Nottingham

Purpose of the Role
To coordinate, support, and advise the business on all aspects of health, safety, and fire compliance. The role is responsible for establishing, implementing, and continuously monitoring standards, processes, training, and systems to ensure all health and safety obligations at the Victoria Centre are achieved.
This includes always ensuring statutory compliance across retailers, contractors, and internal operations, as well as delivering and overseeing relevant health, safety, and fire safety training to the centre team.
Key Responsibilities
· Ensure a safe workplace environment without risk to health.
· Ensure that all health & safety policies, procedures, rules and regulations are adhered to by centre staff, retailers and contractors and are regularly reviewed, updated and communicated.
· Ensure the company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting.
· Ensure the completion and regular review of all risk assessments for all work activities and operations.
· Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended improvements are implemented in a timely manner.
· Ensure that landlord and retailer workplace safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed and employees, retailers and contractors are all aware of their responsibilities.
· Take a leading role in the health and safety induction of new staff, contractors and retailers.
· Co-ordinate the development of local health and safety policies, safe systems of work and operational procedures.
· Ensure that full and accurate health and safety and training records are held and maintained.
· Co-ordinate scheduled audits and manage action plans accordingly.
· Liaise with the head office health and safety team, keep up to date with all aspects of relevant legislation and communicate changes to the centre team as required.
· Chair the quarterly site health and safety meetings, distribute minutes and ensure that all agreed action points are completed within agreed deadlines.
· Provide regular reports to the Leadership Team on relevant health and safety matters.
· Support with local claims handling processes and liaise with insurers/solicitors accordingly.
· Establish and maintain solid working partnerships with the local authority and Fire authority.
· Act as Duty Manager on a rotational basis and be a key member of the centres Crisis Management Team.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience
Essential:
· At least 2 years recent and relevant experience in a similar role.
· NEBOSH (General Certificate) in Occupational Health & Safety.
· Have a good working knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety Order) 2005.
· Have working knowledge of the Food Safety Act 1990
· Experience in delivering face to face training.
· Experience in handling health and safety investigations.
· Experience in producing risk assessments, including fire risk assessments and safe systems of work.
· Confidentiality in all matters.
· Professional approach with strong interpersonal skills.
· Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills.
· Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills.
· Strong IT skills with a good working knowledge of Microsoft products.
· Ability to work on own initiative.
· Ability to work with others to complete tasks and implement process improvements.
· Flexible and co-operative at all times.
Desirable:
· NEBOSH Diploma
· Member of IOSH.
· Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training or similar.
Working Hours - 40hrs a week - 5 days from 7
Salary - £37k - £41k depending on experience
